Outlook
The cooler has started for the beginning of the season for me and the Raptors alike. Both games so far have looked like favourable picks for the Raptors. The New Orleans Pelicans, and the San Antonio Spurs both caught fire from three en route to surprising victories. The point is, anything can happen – especially in this strange NBA season. We have seen the New York Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks, the Los Angeles Clippers lose by 51 points, and the Cleveland Cavaliers off to a 3-0 start. Bet with extreme caution right now folks.
Looking at the matchup with the Sixers – it really is a pick’em. The Raptors no longer have Marc Gasol to shut down Joel Embiid (if he plays) but Aron Baynes will be serviceable in this role. The Sixers have Ben Simmons to guard Pascal Siakam, and then Joel Embiid will be waiting by the rim for his drives. This goes for Fred Vanvleet and Kyle Lowry too. My early distrust for the Raptors wants me to pick the Sixers, but given the 0-2 start I will very slightly lean towards picking the Raptors. Norman Powell will eventually have a breakout game and if the defence can hold up they should able to win the game. The Raptors deserve the benefit of the doubt for now, but they might lose this if they can’t figure it out soon.
