We finally have some Raptors news. According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, the Toronto Raptors are looking to move up in this year’s NBA draft.

Per RealGM (who got it from Ford’s insider report)

The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns are all open to offers for their lottery picks, according to sources.

The Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors are expected to be especially busy looking to move up or to acquire a second pick.

To my understanding, the draft takes a steep drop-off after pick number 7 or so, and to get one of those worthwhile picks will be tough and likely require something substantial.

We all know Masai Ujiri loves, and I mean loves, and I mean loves the draft. If he has an eye on a certain prospect, he will not hesitate moving up and grabbing him. Masai certainly has a solid track record when making these kind of decisions, so I put my full trust in him. I expect some movement before, or on draft day. Just don’t mess with the core, please.

  1. When you say “Core” what do you mean? Just Terrence and JV? Or are we considering DD, Lowry, and Amir also a part of the “core”?

      • The thing I’d like people to start acknowledging is… We are not a championship team with the current roster, it was a particularly weak eastern conference this year and this years NBA draft is going to change the landscape…

Point is Raps need to make trades to get better and that means you have to give up valuable pieces to get something valuable in return.

The “core” isn’t set in stone,

Only JV is untouchable in my mind.

DD ( yes ) , Amir and Ross (plus any other contract on team) are all trade pieces if the right deal presents.

On Lowry – Not convinced bring him back for over 11 mill a season is worth.

Teams are going to over pay and Raps should not compete with that.
