According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Toronto Raptors have signed point guard D.J. Augustin to a one year deal worth approximately 1.26 million. The former Indiana Pacers guard averaged 4.7 points, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 rebounds last year and was out of the rotation. With the Charlotte Bobcats, Augustin had more success, averaging 14.4 points per game and 6.1 assists per game in his career best season (2010-11).

The Raptors needed a veteran back-up point guard, and D.J. certainly meets that bill. Augustin, 25, is a young, steady point guard that will do a reasonable job in the back-up role at a great price. Masai Ujiri inked him to a one year deal, indicating that this is another likely ‘filler’ signing, meaning he’s just another piece being used to fill out a hole in the roster for the year. This upcoming season is looking more and more like an evaluation period for the Raptors as Ujiri clearly doesn’t want any long-term contracts.
