Toronto Acquires: Sebastian Telfair from Phoenix Suns
Toronto Trades: Hamed Haddadi & Protected 2nd Round Pick
The Toronto Raptors refused to stay quiet on Thursday’s trade deadline by making a move to bolster their backcourt. After the acquisition of Rudy Gay, the Raptors lacked backcourt depth by losing point guard Jose Calderon. John Lucas III has been the primary backup for Kyle Lowry since the deal went down and he has been inconsistent in that role. With that being said, the Raptors have acquired point guard Sebastian “Bassy” Telfair from the Phoenix Suns.
Sebastian Telfair earned his name coming out of high school in Brooklyn and also for being the cousin to former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury. Bassy has career averages of 7.5 points and 3.5 assists but on a team like this he should be able to find more creative freedom. Bassy was known as a playground legend, and he has the type of ball handling skills that will remind fans of Rafer Alston aka Skip-to-My-Lou.
Telfair has been around the league so he’s a vet, and knows where he’s at with his game. He’s no longer a high-school baller, Telfair is now 27 years old and shooting the best 3-point percentage of his career at 38% shooting. His tight handle and good shooting will be a welcomed addition to the team, he’s a quick point guard and hopefully with a renewed motor now that he’s alongside buddies Kyle Lowry and Rudy Gay.
