Sort of breaking news. The Toronto Raptors are apparently revving up to make a run at signing Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant when he becomes a free agent in 2016. To clarify, Durant has two years after this season left on his contract.

The organization’s championship aspirations have been made apparent by Tim Leiweke and Masai Ujiri. After bringing superstars such as Jermaine Defoe to Toronto FC, there is no reason to believe Leiweke won’t at least try to bring a superstar to the Raptors.

The report comes from the Toronto Star’s Cathal Kelly, so I don’t want to read any ‘Raptors Cage is making stuff up”.

Raptors GM Masai Ujiri does his evaluation in small chunks, normally, six games at a time. The larger MLSE apparatus thinks longer term. The most ambitious of those macro ambitions involves luring Durant to Toronto.

Kevin Durant is Drake’s Manhattan Project. Luring the second-best player in basketball would allow him to retire as a volunteer recruiter and start owning a chunk of this thing. Durant in two years is Drake’s finish line.

It’s no secret that players such as LeBron James and Durant enjoy coming to Toronto. In fact, Durant’s favorite team growing up was the Raptors. Does that mean there is a chance of him considering Toronto as a destination?

Maybe.

For now Raps fans can drool over the possibility all they want, but the reality is that this isn’t happening anytime soon, if at all. The organization will first have to build a winning culture and prove itself as a legit spot for KD. After watching him absolutely slaughter the Raps tonight and cap it off with an insane game-winner, I can officially say I would probably be on board with bringing Durant to Toronto. Make it happen, Masai.
