According to a report from ESPN, the Toronto Raptors have been fined $25,000 by the NBA due to comments made by the team’s Global Ambassador Drake. At last week’s annual OVO Fest, the rapper singled out Kevin Durant and asked Toronto fans to demonstrate their reaction if the superstar forward were to join the team in free agency. While the excessive noise initially came across as wishful thinking and crowd hype, the association has now deemed it as illegal tampering (resulting in the team fine).

You may have read our recent article  summarizing Drake’s contribution to the Raps thus far and the potential role he could play in future ventures. It includes video footage of the now-controversial comments. This charge seems to be a mere warning to both Toronto and Drake- it’s against league rules to recruit a player who is currently under contract with another team. Moving forward,  both parties must be cautious in their public actions and comments to avoid further punishment. Expect Drake’s role with the team to be more clearly defined and less liberal.
