The Toronto Raptors have officially added unrestricted free agent power forward Tyler Hansbrough to a two year deal. 3 million dollars per year with the second year as a team option were the details announced on July 10th. He did make our list as a potential power forward target, however this appears to be a stop-gap option as opposed to the long term solution at the power forward slot. Hansbrough, 27, does not take this team to the next level, however will fill in decently off the bench and make a solid tandem with Amir Johnson which will allow Masai Ujiri to use the next year to evaluate the roster. His career averages are 8.9 PPG and 4.7 RPG in nearly 20 minutes.

If the Raps do want to continue with the current core squad, Hansbrough will be able to fill in this season, and the Raps will be able to try again when 2014 free agency comes around. The team option means that Raps aren’t going to be tied to him whatsoever after this upcoming season – absolutely great news. The Raps needed a power forward, and with the limited cap flexibility, Ujiri made the best of the situation however this will NOT get it done if the Raps plan to contend for championships.

The bottom line with ‘Psycho-T’ is this: he’s an extremely dirty player that you will hate unless he’s on your team. He gets under players’ skin, plays very hard, but also has some skill. He was a college star, so NCAA junkies will definitely remember him. Also, he has a ‘hockey (goon-type) mentality’ so maybe some Leafs fans will tune in for a few games. Note that the deal will be official on Wednesday.

Jack Armstrong called him a “hack”, and I don’t think Jonas Valanciunas is particularly fond of him, so this should be fun.

  1. Raptors become more of a joke every year. Go fuck yourself Masai. Go back to Denver. I’d rather have fucking Andrea Trashnani back.

  2. I think this is a good pick up for the raps. We are obviously not tanking, so we might as well get depth at the pf which we desperately needed. And he will give us energy and hustle every night
