Coming off a tough loss to the Miami Heat, the Toronto Raptors (26-41) look to bounce back against the Charlotte Bobcats (15-52), as they hope to take the season series. Toronto won last week’s bout 92-78, as they were lead by Rudy Gay, with 28 points on an efficient 11-16 shooting, and Amir Johnson adding in a double-double of 12 points, and 21 rebounds. Amir was the only Raptor to record 20+ rebounds in a game since Joey Dorsey was a Raptor. Charlotte has won 9 of their 15 games at home this season, and they will be coming into this game with momentum, as they beat the Washington Wizards 119-114. Gerald Henderson is keeping up the hot play of late, as he lead the team with 27 points, and 8 assists on 8-14 shooting, and 10-11 from the free throw line.

Cage’s 5 keys to the game:

1. Contain Penetration

Toronto has struggled in the past games against the Bobcats in keeping them from getting to the paint, from the perimeter. Buckle down defensively, guard your yard, and don’t allow any one to get their way to the hoop. Shut down any driving lanes, and be prepared to help and rotate.

2. Watch Out For Kemba Walker

The point guards have had trouble with Kemba Walker this season. Starting with Kyle Lowry, he’s got to be able to withstand the defensive pressure Walker will throw, and don’t allow him to penetrate the defense. He’s too quick, and agile of a player to stop once he’s made his mind of going to the rim. Limit his opportunities.

3. Crash The Boards

Toronto won the rebounding battle last game, getting a 10 rebound margin on Charlotte. Give yourself extra possessions, and closing out the defensive end is going to be important. It’s a must win for the Raptors, and getting the advantage on the boards is a great way to help your team win the game. Less is more doesn’t apply here! Don’t rely too heavily on Amir to do the dirty work either.

4. Limit The Turnovers

Toronto lost the turnover totals in the last match-up against this team. That allowed Charlotte to get within breathing room, and now that this game is on their home floor, you can’t allow them to grab extra possessions. They’re a young team, and will likely be fueled upon any momentum they can get. Take care of the ball, which forces Charlotte to play in a half-court setting where they have struggled all season,

5. “Do What You Don’t Want Them To Do”

Toronto doesn’t want Charlotte to get out and run, but, Toronto SHOULD want to get out in the open court themselves. Charlotte isn’t a strong team defensively in transition, and that’s where the Raptors can take an immediate advantage. Grab the board, outlet it, and RUN.

X-Factor: Demar Derozan

He’s struggled in this recent stretch. Demar has been having a breakout season, and he’s been consistent all year. Step up DeMar, this is definitely a game where you can find your groove again, and play in the level of basketball you’ve been playing all season. Expect him to be aggressive early, but defensively is going to be the question. Last game, Gerald Henderson lit him up for 22 points. Keep him in front!
