Bryan Colangelo has stepped down as president of the Toronto Raptors organization under his own will after being succeeded by Masai Ujiri. He will stay as a consultant for MLSE until a better job opportunity opens up.

“Having had a better chance to reflect on things for the past several weeks, I have concluded that stepping away from my position is the best course of action for the organization and everyone involved,” Colangelo said.

“I would like to personally thank Larry Tanenbaum, Dale Lastman, MLSE’s ownership and family and the wonderful people of Toronto for the opportunity to serve them over the last seven years. The support, kindness and adulation that has been displayed to me and my family has been overwhelming, and our friendships and experiences will last a lifetime.”

Sources say that Tim Leiweke and Colangelo were in serious disagreement, and this is likely reason #1 for Colangelo’s decision.

So, this officially marks the end of the BC era. This is somewhat surprising considering the way he was treating the situation initially, but it’s not crazy. After being slapped in the face, he likely had time to talk to his family and they’ve decided that they wouldn’t be too bummed about moving to another city if something better comes up.

With Colangelo officially gone, this is truly a fresh start for this franchise. At this point, nobody knows what’s going to happen, and there is absolutely no guarantee that Colangelo’s vision will come to fruition because he will not be here to guide it.
