rapssixers-10-111115The Toronto Raptors are coming off two strong wins against two mediocre Eastern conference teams. Defensively, the Raptors (23-15) have been very impressive, especially considering the roster’s best defensive player (DeMarre Carroll) has been in and out of the lineup.

For the Philadelphia 76ers (4-34) on the other hand, have actually been good, for some part. The Sixers have gone a solid 3-4 in the last month (good for their standards) since acquiring the speedy point guard Ish Smith from New Orleans.

Carroll will still be out, and there’s a chance Terrence Ross may not suit up. He left last night’s game with a sore lower back, and didn’t return.

Raptors Cage’s Keys To The Game

Play to Your Level

The Raptors have been on a roll recently, playing at a high level, with a sense of urgency and intensity. Playing against the Philadelphia 76ers doesn’t exactly ring a bell of urgency; considering the previous two opponents were the teams that knocked the Raptors out of the playoffs in the last two years. Take them out early, and give your main guys a rest.

The Sixers like to run, and they take advantage of turnovers, especially because it’s one of the few ways they are able to score. Starting with DeMar DeRozan, he and the team have to take smart shots, efficient shots by creating better looks through drive-and-kick, and making smart decisions passing-wise.

Play Physical

The Sixers are young, and they have guys that aren’t nearly the size or bulk the Raptors are. Physicality, especially for young and unproven players will bother them. Physical play tends to frustrate and rattle the youth of the NBA, which is a good technique considering the Sixers are already a mentally-weak team with their record.

DeMar DeRozan has been on a tear recently; he’s easily been the best player in the Eastern conference in the past month and a half, especially with his efficiency, impact throughout the game, his statistics, and his leadership. Proven in the past meetings, the Sixers do not have a single wing player that can guard DeRozan straight up. He has to take advantage and punish the lacking Sixer defense.
